this is my hand and wheel project that I made on the wheel then carved with my hands. It is about 4 inches wide and 4 inches tall. Since I ran out of time to glaze this project it is very rough. This project has a big emphasis on line and texture. The line around the brim of the bowl creatures a feeling of movement. The texture around the entire bowls gives it a very rustic feel.

This is my two part tall project that was made on the wheel. It's about 12 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide. The project has some grooves and ridges on it that give it texture. The glaze job did not turn out very well on this project. I painted two coats of of dark blue and black glaze instead of dunking the project. It came out blotchy and transparent. A new skill I learned was putting the tall project together. I did this with my frankenpot, but this time I did it alone. I find shape to be an important element in this project. The shape was meant to be very simple and straight and the two pieces are almost perfectly the same size! The two similar colors were meant to create contrast, but it isn't as noticeable since the colors are so weak. I am planning on reglazing the project so it will look better and more complete.
This is an extra credit project. It is a vase that was made on the wheel. It is 4.5 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It is a very smooth project that has a unique glaze job. I first covered the vase in white glaze then sponged on different colors of blue. This was the first time I tried this type of glaze and I decided this is how I'm going to do my theme project! It was worth while to do this project because now I know what I want to do for the set of three themed projects. This bowls focus is on color. The white and blue compliment each other really well. A gradient of blue is created where it goes from a darker shade to a lighter shade and finally to white. This shows you the value of blue. The gradient creates a sense of movement because your eye follows the gradient. Overall this is a very simple and pretty project.
This is my second large bowl that was made on the wheel. It is about 6 inches wide and 4 inches tall. It is a smooth bowl that has an interesting design. I used the masking tape to create blank space between the color. I used the black glaze and all other blue shades to fill in the triangular shapes created by the tape. A new skilled I learned was using the masking tape. This was the first time I ever tried this design and it turned out really well. Shape and color are the overarching forms of art elements. The irregular triangular shapes are vital to color aspect. The triangles all work together to form a pattern. The pattern consists of repeating shapes with different colors. A sense of unity is created because all the shapes fit together perfectly. Overall this has a modern feel because of the sharp edges and similar coloring.
This is my second project that I made with the paper clay. It is a flower figurine. It is about 3 inches at its widest point. This project is very small and has some intricate details. I added smaller vines that come off the main vine as well as marking on the petal.
This is my first paper clay project. It is an small latern that can hold a small candle. It is about 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It is rough where the clay is joined together and smooth on the circular pieces. There is a hook on the top so it can hang from somewhere too. This project contains many lines that leads your eye all over the place. There is no center to this project so the lines cause chaos. The lines also create a lot of negative space. This clay is very light so there is open space all over the place. I think the project creates movement. The negative space and lines make your eyes dart everywhere. There are circles in circles. From this project I learned how to work with new clay. This project has a dilapidated feel. Although the project is stable, it looks like it might not stay together! This is a very odd project, but it was a fun experience.
This is my origami flower! I YouTubed easy origami and this was the second result! It's about 3 inches wide and 2 inches tall. Unfortunately I only had white paper at home, so my flower lacks in color. The key art element here is form. Origami is the art of 3D paper! This flower has depth and layers. There is a feeling of pattern here because of the way that the petals twist and curl inwards. I learned the importance of following steps really carefully with this project. Overall this is a very cute project that combines simplicity and some complexity.
This is me and Emily Cole's frankenpot. It is about 10 inches tall and 4 inches wide. It consists of of three cylinders that were made on the wheel. Emily threw the top and bottom piece. I threw the middle piece and I sanded the project once it dried. This project focuses a lot on color. Although the color is very simple it has a rainbow of accent colors! The colors are neatly placed creating a feeling of balance. Overall this project it very cute and fun. It has an exciting feel that creates a lot of movement.
This is my first project of the second quarter. It is a large bowl that was made on the wheel. It is a smooth bowl that isb7 inches wide and 5 inches tall. The outside of this bowl was dipped in black glaze. The inside of the bowl I used the water color glazes. This was something new that I tried and learned on this project. The water color glazes are extremely light and transparent. I used different shades of blue and grey to paint the inside of the bowl and then I used green and pink to create a more intricate design. The design is a bush with pink flowers. Color really defines this project. It creates a lot of contrast between the outside and the inside of the bowl. Yet, on the inside of the bowl there is harmony between the colors. They are pastels and neutral colors. Overall this bowl is very different. It creates a sense of joy and life.
