This is an extra credit project that was made on the wheel. It is a bowl that is 5 inches wide and 3 inches tall. This is a very smooth bowl that flares outwards at the top. I used shadow green and white to create the color of this project. First I covered the bowl in white and then I covered it in shadow green. I wasn't sure how much the project would run so I made the bottom of the outside of the bowl had thin to no glaze. Something new I learned was how much I like this combination of glaze. I will definitely use it on another project. Color is that main art element of this project. I really like how it's a light greenish turquoise. Also the way the color tappers off near the end is an important element. Overall this project feels very balanced. It is a symmetric bowl with pleasing colors. I think this bowl looks very lively and fresh.

This is an extra credit project that was made on the wheel. It is a tiny vase that is 3.5 inches tall and 2 inches wide at the top. This project is ribbed on the outside so it isn't completely smooth. I used two glazes on this project. I used the straw color then I coated it with turquoise. I expected that the glazes would run a lot, because someone warned me, so I left plenty of room for the glaze to run. It turns out that the glazes didn't run at all, so there is an unglazed section of my project that is about .5 inches. Something new I learned was not to mix these two glazes. It resulted in a color that I did not like, I will not do these colors in this way again. This project involves a lot of texture. The ribbed outside gave it a bumpy feel, but the glazes also add to the texture. The glazes are very thick and there are two distinct feels to the glazes. The lower glaze is very smooth while the glaze at the top of the vase is matted. This creates a sense of movement because the glaze drilling makes your eyes follow the glazes downwards. Overall, I think this is a very simple and average thing vase. It is practical, and I am planning on making is a pencil holder.
This is my second choice project. It is a tall vase or even a tall cylinder that was made on the wheel. It a a tall project that is 7 inches tall and 3 inches wide. It is a very smooth a sleek project that was first coated in white glaze. After the white glaze I added spirals of the special glaze around the outside and inside of the project. I used a blue, orange, yellow, green, and purple to create a rainbow of colors around the cylinder. Some colors were more vibrant than others after it was glazed, but I liked the result of these glazes a lot. The two dominating art elements of this project would be form and color. The shape of this project is very simple. It is a tall and even project without a footprint. I wanted to minmick popular designs I've seen of tall cylinders. Although the form is very simple the coloring is very complex. These two different aspects of complexity and simplicity create balance within the project. The effects of the glaze that began to drip down the cylinder also created a sense of movement. It feels like the glaze is still moving down towards the bottom. I learned how these special glazes interact with the white glaze and it is definitely something I'll try again! Overall, this is a unique project that really catches your eye. It's overarching simplicity creates a mellow vibe.
This is my first choice project that is a vase and it was made on the wheel. It is a short and chubby vase that is 4.5 inches tall and 4 inches wide. It is a smooth and shiny vase that was partially dunked in black and green glaze. The "bare" parts of the vase that don't have colored glaze on it are coated in clear glaze. A new skill I learned was trying new way of footing the vase. I wanted to try something different so I made a wide and sturdy base. This projects focus is on line and color. The two dark colors are harmonious. Either color compliments the other. The black glaze is so thick and solid that it even reflects the light off of it. I think a more important element of this project would be the lines. The dark colors contrast with the clear clay color underneath them. It emphasizes those slivers of light color. Overall I think this vase looks and feels very modern. With the harsh lines created by the vases contrasting colors the smooth lines of the vase gives a new and modern feel.
This is a lidded project that was made on the wheel. It is a petite and cute project. Including the handle, it is 5 inches tall and 3.5 inches at its widest point. It is a smooth and delicate project. The vase was first dipped in white glaze and then the lip was sponges clean and the top of the lid was painted with white glaze too. After that I used a medium sized paint brush and applied smudges of black and dark blue glaze near the top of the vase and on top of the lid. A new skill I learned was making a small planter. I have only thrown planters with a lot of clay. To make this lid it required me to throw with a tiny amount of clay. This project focuses on value and shape. I knew the black mixed with white would create a shade of blue. On this project I really wanted different values of blue to create a feeling of rhythm. I wanted there to be a repetition of blue smudges to be constant throughout the entire project. The shape of the project was also important. Most notable was the little handle. It emphasizes the top of the project because of the empty space that is encapsulates. Overall, this project gives off a calming feeling because of mellow blue and white color choice and the smooth edges.
This is a planter that was made on the wheel. It is 6 inches wide and 4 inches tall. It is a very smooth and graceful planter with a thick lower base and taller cylinder that flares outward. The planter was dunked in white glaze and then I used a pipette full of the shadow green glaze to create the drip marks. A new skill I learned was how and when to drill the holes in the planter. I forgot how to do it because it's been two years since I have made a planter. The key is to wait a day after to make it to drill the hole. The main focus of this planter is on color and line. The shadow green is contrasted with the white really makes your eye follow the drip marks. The straight lines of glaze causes your eyes to move to the center of the inner cylinder as well as the the base part of the planter. Overall this is a lively and energetic piece of art. It feels like it could support a little plant inside of it.
This is a vase I made on the wheel. It is 5 inches tall and just under 4 inches wide. The surface is extremely smooth, with a couple of rough patches where the glaze is thinner. The outside of the vase was first coated in a green glaze and then Sydney Blue was applied as a second coat. On the the inside green streaks drip down to the bottom. Clear glaze was coated on the inside to insure that it was shiny there as well. I learned what both the green and blue glazes looked like. I have been trying a lot of new colors to see which in is my favorite and I really like Sydney Blue. The delicate color of this vase brings about harmony to the project. The color brings it all togther, but the inside differs. The lines create movement on the inside of the vase. It causes your eyes to follow the green lines down the vase and to the center. Overall it was a very natural feel where the design of the vase would compliment anything inside of it.
This is a cup with a pulled handle that was made on the wheel. It is 4 inches tall and 3 inches wide. The cup is very smooth overall with an over sized slender handle. The outside is covered in turquoise glaze and the inside is coated with white glaze. To the right of the handle is a large splotch of dark blue glaze. It was meant to be a hand print on the cup to mimick how someone might hold onto the cup. Unfortunately, the hand print came out smooshed and unidentifiable and the turquoise glaze is blotchy and transparent in spots. Overall, the glazing did not turn out according to plan and the appearance of the cup is not very good. A new skill I learned was how to glaze properly. To add something, like a hand print, you need plenty of space which I will account for. This cup focused a lot on color. The turquoise emphasizes the dark blue handle print and the white inside brings about harmony within the cup. It provides a calming feeling because of light colors. The lightened inside is asking you to pour some hot liquid into it.
